Tech Info - Vehicle tracking has now become one of the fastest growing pieces of technology used for business. At the moment the market is vastly untapped with a huge potential for growth in small and medium sized businesses. Commercial vehicle tracking systems are now used by a large portion of the blue chip companies in the UK and many other western and developed nations around the world.
With the advantages attached to installing GPS tracking in their fleet of vehicles it is hard to turn you back on it, but there are some drawbacks to tracking. No I am not talking about the wingers who go on about lack of privacy and big brother watching you all the time. I am talking about relying on the technology.
The problem does not stop with vehicle tracking but it is a good place to start. As fleets become to rely on tracking more and more there could come a time that if the tracking systems went down it would stop the delivery trucks and service vehicles from going about their daily duties. Take mobile workforce management solutions for example. If your fleet has to use such equipment to record each delivery and take signatures from customers then how can you do this if the system is down? You can’t is the answer and this can lead to delivery drivers not being able to do their job and therefore lost time and money. This sort of problem could defeat the whole object of tracking systems.
For this reason it would be good to have a contingency plan in place just in case it happened. The same could be said for many technological solutions.
